Chronic Female Pelvic Pain

A significant number of women suffer from chronic pelvic pain.

Sometimes the cause is understood but, frequently the cause is unknown. Pelvic pain is often very debilitating for sufferers, many of whom have the problem for decades. Endometriosis and interstitial cystitis are very high on the list of known causes.

Neural Therapy is a very safe alternative medical therapy practised by thousands of medical doctors throughout Europe and the United States. The evolution of neural therapy included the injection of nerve plexuses with local anaesthetic to re-set their cell membranes. Once these nerves were injected, the nerve transmission was restored to normal, thus alleviating pain and associated downstream physiological problems.

The Frankenhauser Injection for Pelvic Pain:

One of the most profound nerve plexus injections is called the Frankenhauser plexus  injection.

The treatment seems to ‘wake-up’ the nervous tissue in the pelvis and focuses in on a bundle of nerves in the pelvic region known as the Frankenhauser ganglia. These nerves regulate the function of the sex organs. If these nerves are not functioning optimally, they can lead to conditions such as:

  • Urinary problems including interstitial cystitis and bladder problems. It is reported as helping in urinary continence problems.
  • Pelvic Pain.
  • Menstrual issues including heavy flow, severe period pain/dysmenorrhoea.
  • Premenstrual pelvic pain.
  • Adhesions from the scars of surgeries, especially hysterectomy and caesarean sections.
  • Bilateral hip pain that has been unresponsive to treatment in the past, and which gets worse with menstrual cycles.
  • Infertility of unknown origin.
  • Sexual difficulties, low libido and reduced or absent sexual response.
  • This injection can also be helpful in people who have experienced pelvic trauma or sexual abuse, but they also need to receive appropriate psychological care.

The original neural therapy local anaesthetic injection has been further developed by Dr. Frank Shallenberger MD in the U.S. who added ozone to the mix. Dr. Magovern learned this technique from Dr. Shallenberger.

The injection currently contains a mixture of vitamins, procaine, saline, and ozone, which stimulates the cells in the area.

Many people find lasting relief from the treatment. The number of treatments required with neural therapy depends upon the response of the patient, but generally it vaies between one and three.

We have seen excellent results with this treatment in our patients in Drummartin Clinic, but we must stress that outcomes cannot be guaranteed.  Dr. Magovern would say that it is one of his favourite treatments in terms of effectiveness.

Some of the people it has helped have suffered for many years, sometimes several decades. The response can sometimes be nothing short of amazing.

Practical issues and booking appointments:

Many people find lasting relief from this treatment.

The number of treatments required depends upon the response of the patient but generally are between one and three.

Do not book this injection for the time of your menstrual period or for 3-days before or after the period.

You do not need a full 80 minute functional medicine consultation prior to this procedure. You will, however, need a pre-procedure consultation prior to your injection so that we can carry out a medical history and examination to make sure that you are a suitable candidate.

The discomfort level is about  2/10  to  3/10  or less.  You ought to be able to return to work or school more or less immediately afterwards.

Patient Experience

I am a 24 year old female who has had longstanding problems with severe allergies, fatigue and very troubling pelvic and urinary symptoms.

My energy levels and overall quality of life have improved greatly since my first visit with Dr. Magovern. His treatments, particularly the Ozone therapy for my pelvic pain have transformed my life, and I would recommend the clinic to anyone with complex health issues
