Prolozone Therapy at Drummartin Clinic
We take a root-and-branch approach to treating pain. Identifying and treating all problems causing pain in a patient is our goal through careful investigation. We also have available a sophisticated form of neurofeedback.
At Drummartin Clinic, we take a functional and integrative approach to treating pain—looking at root causes, not just symptoms. Here’s what we observe in practice.
Prolozone Therapy – One of Our ‘Star’ Pain Treatments
What is Prolozone Therapy?
A regenerative complementary medical treatment called Prolozone utilizes ozone (a gas consisting of three oxygen atoms) in combination with additional substances tailored to the specific condition.
When inflammation is the problem, we can add ozone gas to a cortisone injection (Usually 1/10th of the standard cortisone injection); and when regeneration is the goal, we can add ozone gas to regenerative solutions. Most of the time we do not need to go to the expense of adding platelet-rich plasma and ozone gas — on its own it does an excellent job — but we do occasionally use PRP.
Upon the injection of Prolozone into a painful, degenerating, or injured joint, an increase in blood flow, a reduction in inflammation, and the stimulation of growth factors are typically observed; moreover, there are reports of increased collagen production. It is also believed that ozone assists in cartilage regeneration.
The beauty of ozone gas is that, once injected, it quickly spreads out all around the damaged tissue area. It can also reduce the discomfort that often follows PRP or other stem cell-like injections.
Prolozone Therapy, in contrast to steroid injections, supports the body’s inherent healing power by delivering ozone directly to the area of concern, helping to address the underlying causes of musculoskeletal pain and restoring one’s ability to lead an active life.
Usual Treatment Plan
Typically, 3–4 sessions spaced 2–3 weeks apart. We only continue treatment if we see a minimum of 20–30% improvement after the first session.
What is Injected?
Ozone gas plus a preparatory mixture to stimulate a beneficial tissue healing response.
Procaine local anesthetic, is routinely utilized in our protocols. Injections, including those in the pelvic and prostate areas, typically result in a transient maximum pain rating of 3–4/10. The pain level in most joints, such as the shoulder, is typically between 1–2/10, the lower back 3–5/10, and the neck occasionally experiences transient pain reaching 8/10.
Could Prolozone Treatment Help You?
You first need to decide: Is your pain localised or generalised? Understanding the pattern of your pain helps guide the treatment options we explore with you.
1. Localised Pain
One or two joints, such as the shoulder, knee, or wrist.
2. Generalised Pain
Widespread pain across the body, often with fatigue or digestive symptoms.
Treatment Outcomes – Localised Pain
Based on anecdotal results from our clinical experience:
- 80%+ positive response: Shoulder, elbow, wrist, knee, ankle pain, sinus pain, Prolozone headache treatments of problem areas including occipital nerve block, TMJ area
- 80%+ positive response: Upper trapezius pain
- 70–75% positive response: Low back pain (even with past failed treatments)
- 60% positive response: Neck pain
- 20–30% at best: Hip pain (often less predictable)
- 60–80% positive response: Male pelvic pain & prostate symptoms
- 60–80% positive response: Female pelvic pain & urinary symptoms
Treatment Plan: Typically, 3–4 sessions spaced 2–3 weeks apart. We only continue treatment if we see a 20–30% improvement after the first session.
Treatment for Generalised Pain
For conditions such as fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, or pain without a clear cause, we use a more strategic and integrated approach:
- Multi-pass ozone therapy – may provide significant benefit
- IV infusions – supportive for systemic inflammation and fatigue
- Root-cause investigation – addressing infections, gut health, toxicity, and hormonal factors
